Chicago Design Summit – Our Take

Bailey & Weiler team members had the pleasure of attending the 2016 Chicago Design Summit hosted by LuxeHome at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. As the largest residential design event in the Midwest, manufacturers, leading designers and trade professionals took the opportunity to showcase 29 product debuts, seven new showrooms, and 31 programs and events.

Highlights our our day at The Mart included “The Iconic House” panel moderated by Julie Hacker FAIA, Pella and the American Institute of Architects, and a presentation in the Poggenpohl showroom by Pam McNally, VP of Digital, Sandow Media on the evolving social media landscape.

Traditional Home magazine covered the latest kitchen trends as Chef John Manion of La Sirena Clandestina offered a cooking demonstration at the Miele Experience Center.

We have incorporated more natural wood and stone surfaces into our designs at the request of our clients – a trend that was reiterated throughout several showrooms at The Mart.

Warm metallic finishes are appearing more frequently in displays and promotions. Copper, brass and gold accents provide a rich element without going over the top.

Waterfall counters continue to be popular in design showcases – and are often mixed with traditional looks to add a contemporary flair.

Flush appliance installation provides very clean lines. Several manufacturers have developed products specifically for this look.
